Peer support is emotional and practical support between two people who share a common experience, such as a mental health challenge or illness. A Peer Specialist has lived experience with mental illness or substance abuse disorder, and is trained to support others.
With direction and guidance, a Peer Specialist advocates for, educates and assists adult clients in regaining control over their own recovery process as well as supports families of children & adolescents in navigating mental health and social systems. Perhaps one of the most important responsibilities of the Peer Specialist is to role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.
Mobile Recovery Team:
The Mobile recovery team works with community partners to engage and integrate stops on the recovery continuum, including primary care practices, peer groups, and other social service agencies serving at risk populations. Through community building efforts, the team will have an opportunity to engage in motivational interviewing techniques with County residents who are struggling with substance abuse and addiction.
Peer Specialist Co-Responder:
The Peer Specialist Co-Responder is employed by Mind Springs Health and works with the PACT (Pitkin Area Co-responder Teams) program. The purpose of the PACT program is to support law enforcement on mental health calls for service and, when possible, divert individuals with behavioral health disorders or symptoms from involvement in the criminal justice system, engaging them in treatment and/or social services instead.
This position partners closely with law enforcement officers and deputies to provide on scene mobile response, intervention, evaluation and disposition to individuals with behavioral health disorders or symptoms. Will also collaborate with a PACT Case Manager and Clinician III.
Must be, or have been, a client of mental health services, or is/has been a caretaker of minor child that has received mental health services.
Basic computer skills with various software applications, including Microsoft Office, required.
