Peer support is emotional and practical support between two people who share a common experience, such as a mental health challenge or illness. A Peer Specialist has lived through that similar experience, and is trained to support others.
With direction and guidance, a Peer Specialist advocates for, educates and assists adult clients in regaining control over their own recovery process as well as supports families of children & adolescents in navigating mental health and social systems. Perhaps one of the most important responsibilities of the Peer Specialist is to role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.
Must be, or have been, a client of mental health services, or is/has been a caretaker of minor child that has received mental health services.
Basic computer skills with various software applications, including Microsoft Office, required.
