School-Based Mental Health Advocate

Mind Springs is committed to removing barriers for youth mental health services for educators, families, teens and children.

Typical Barriers:

  • Limited number of available mental health resources in the local community.
  • Challenges around scheduling and connecting with mental health resources.
  • Transportation hurdles with getting students to providers or therapists.

The Advocate works to remove barriers, coordinates appointments, ensures confidentiality and flexibility, completes assessments, and more.

The Advocate coordinates with school staff to set up direct access to a Mind Springs psychiatric provider and/or licensed clinical therapist, which are available across our 13-county treatment region. The Advocate works with staff to identify private and comfortable spaces for students to confidentially access telehealth appointments with a licensed therapist or psychiatric provider. Fully secure and HIPAA-compliant iPads are provided at no additional cost. Appointment times are flexible and can be done before, during, or after school hours. The Advocate:

  • completes an assessment with the student and their parent and/or caregivers.
  • schedules time for the student with a psychiatric provider or licensed therapist.
  • connects with other community and mental health partners for distinct student and family resource needs.
